About Us

HISTORY: Unorganized Township 50 N Range 17 West was annexed by Industrial Township on October 1892 with the exception of the Fond Du Lac Reservation and that part lying South and West of the St. Louis River.  On July 10, 1922 Brevator Township was formed from the division of Towns 50 & 51 N Range 17 W.  This was due to the lack of roads and poor means of communication.  The assets were divided, 41.94% to Brevator and 58.06% to Industrial.  The first town meeting was held July 29, 1922 to elect officers.  Since then, many changes have occurred including a four-lane highway on 33 North.  With the build of the highway, the old Town Hall was relocated to just east of Hwy 33 N and Morris Thomas Road. (Source:  Brevator News 1-95)

LOCATION: Brevator Township is separated by the St. Louis River; as a result, there are two sections to the Township, East and West Brevator.  East Brevator lies just north of the City of Cloquet at the St. Louis County border and extends to just north of Highway 2 at Seville Road.  The St. Louis River borders on the west and the Crosby Road on the East.  West Brevator borders the St. Louis River on the east, the Brookston Rd on the West and the Demenge Road on the South.  The northern border of both sections is just north of Highway 2 on Seville Road. A portion of Brevator Township lies within the boundaries of the Fond du Lac Reservation.

DESCRIPTION: Brevator Township lies within a heavily wooded area separated by the scenic St. Louis River.  The White Pine River runs into the St. Louis River north of Cloquet.  Simian and Andy Lakes lie within Brevator Township.  A DNR trail runs from the City of Cloquet through Brevator and on north following an old railroad grade.
